Description
SPEOS is a unique light simulation software.
Its ease of use, the accuracy of its algorithms and the constant addition of new modules and libraries make it a world-wide reference in CAD Light.

Thanks to its user-friendly graphical interface and its numerous modules and libraries, SPEOS’ work is intuitive and transparent.

It is a natural extension to mechanical CAD software for total virtual prototyping. SPEOS imports and exports your mechanical CAD files (IGES, STEP, SAT, DXF formats and native Catia, SolidWorks formats). The integrated modeller includes all the advanced modelisation functions (primitive, extrusion, Boolean functions…).

To simulate the path of light rays, you apply surface and material properties to your objects. Incorporated within SPEOS are the most complete surface state and material models on the market (BRDF, coatings, spectral absorption, volume diffusion). Our libraries, constantly being enlarged, make it easier for you to design and enable you to accurately characterise the model in your project. Our engineering department can also carry out all the measures necessary to characterise a specific material.

From our catalogue you can choose the (already modelled) lamps which you use most often (incandescent, LED, arc lamps, laser diodes…). What’s more, with the spectrum editor, modify the spectral characteristics of your source.

Before calculating, the interactive ray tracer allows you to judge the efficiency of your system. Representation in 3D affords you an overall and immediate understanding of the system and its faults.

The total 3D approach validates your system before carrying out the simulation. Simulations and calculations provide you with the data needed to check the quality of the system (illuminance, intensity, luminance, point luminance, colorimetry). These results are easily exploited in SPEOS’ virtual photometric laboratory (VP lab). Our physical modelling of light propagation and our calculation algorithms mean an accuracy to the order of +/- 5%.

Over fifteen years of experience in the domain of optics and information technology have enabled us to establish SPEOS as the essential tool for the virtual prototyping of lighting systems.

Operating requirements
Hardware configuration :
• Pentium II/III or AMD K6 and higher based processor.
• Depending on the system you are using please check the size of the memory (C.F Table memory).
• Large hard drive (~2 Go is a minimum) with an important free space (SPEOS needs approximately 300 Mb to be installed) .
• A graphic card that support the Open GL layer. If your graphic card is not Open GL compliant you may have some problems when displaying a 3D view. It is recommended to have 8 to 16 Mb of memory on this card. It must be configured with 16 millions of colors and 800 x 600 (minimal) resolution. (1024x78 recommended).
• In case you have any other software that already uses a dongle on the parallel port it is better to add a card that supplies a new parallel port. Please contact your hardware reseller for more information.

Software configuration :
• Windows NT or 2000 families (95 and 98 also supported but not recommended).
• Installation of IE 5.0 or higher installation is necessary.
• OpenGL component must be installed properly and last drivers installed.

Table memory
Operating system (Required memory)
Windows 95 (128 Mb)
Windows 98 (128 Mb)
Windows NT 4.X (128 Mb)
Windows 2000 (128 to 256 Mb)
Where the memory is concerned please refer to Microsoft documentation about how to configure and to optimise the virtual memory system.
If you used CAD files very heavy you must increase the required memory.
