OPTIS OMS2 and OMS4 are fully compatible with all OPTIS solutions from SPEOS to VR applications. Measurement results can be directly imported into your simulation environment which means you need no data conversion and get actual optical properties to apply in any product design process with OPTIS software.


Numerical and physical information will accelerate faster decision making on perceived quality, material choice, and even solving optical issues in engineering phase which is sometimes difficult to figure out best solution.

If you run simulation many times but still look for better results, then material measurement might help you to get a right answer to move next step. In this year we have been working on major improvements of our OMS hardware systems. The software has been made more user friendly and improved by additional functionality. Now you get an instant preview of the measurement on a rendering object using THEIA-RT real time ray tracing thanks to the BRDF/BSDF viewer. Like this check directly the result of a simulation based on the actual measurement. Additionally a photo of the sample can be added to the BRDF/BSDF data so that it is easier to document the measurements.


Additional features allow you to compare to other measurement hardware to analyze the measurements with the help of the OPTIS Labs software, to have a look on the native measurement data, which can be used to compare easily different measurement qualities. In addition, it is possible to enhance the measured data by other instruments results (spectra measured from other devices) and to reduce the simulation time by optimizing the content of the measurement data (enhanced interpolation algorithm).



2 steps to get more realistic simulation results

Scan colors, materials, textures & light sources such as LCD screen or OLED display... and drag and drop the measurement date directly into the OPTIS visualization software. Apply your material samples to virtual prototypes to get more realistic simulation results.

OMS2 is a handy type measurement device – no fixed installation, no time consuming calibration, no need of measurement expert to use.
This user friendly device helps you to capture real world materials samples such as car bash board, wall in a room, wood board from your desk, etc.

The hardware specific improvements are:
  • Integrated preview of the measurement (available since OMS2 V4.0 Q1 2014)
  • Measurement of anisotropic samples like brushed aluminum (available since OMS2 V5.0, Q2 2014)
  • Measurement of flat sources, relative color intensity (available with OMS2 V6.0 Q1 2015)

Why not apply accurate optical property to your simulation?

The OMS4 measurement system provides material and light source measurement to capture and characterize its optical properties in high precision. As fully integrated into all OPTIS software so as OMS2, you can apply measurement results directly to your simulation.


OMS4 is fixed installation which requires dark room or curtain to cover the system. No room for this setup in your office? No worry, we have a solution - OPTIS provides measurement service with OMS4 for material and light source samples for OPTIS software users.

The hardware specific improvements are:
  • Reduced size
  • Measurement time reduced by factor 2
  • Customization of the Goniometer with an RGB Laser source (available from 2015) for color BSDF measurement (for example automotive paint)
  • Customization of the Goniometer with an additional motor to rotate the sample (available from 2015) for automated anisotropic measurement (prismatic diffuser sheets)
