OPTIS, the leading software vendor for the scientific simulation of light, human vision and physically correct visualization, today announced the acquisition of Newscape Technology, the French specialist in the manipulation of heavy 3D models on mobile devices.
OPTIS acquires the Lannion-based Newscape technology, a company known for its YesCitiz and Mobile 3D City applications, the first mobile photo-textured 3D city applications, and the NST3DCAD solution. Newscape Technology is focused on the mobile 3D CAD market and developed NST3DCAD, a technology highly specialized in meshing optimization to be able to manipulate very heavy models. This technology opens new perspectives as it allows 3D models to leave the engineering department and be used in virtual reality. The solution, independent from the original CAD software, is based on a patented technology, unique in the world. Prestigious customers as Total, H2X, SMB Offshore and Endel already adopted NST3DCAD in their processes to take their 3D models out of the design studio and use them as real communication tools. Jacques Delacour, President & CEO of OPTIS, says:
“With the rise of the internet, smart phones and other touch screen devices, our customers express a growing need to fully make advantage of these new uses, not only in the commercial and marketing sectors, but also in studies, methodology and processes. Truth is, managing large assemblies on touch screen devices is a real challenge, as they only hold a limited amount of power. And the people at Newscape Technologies have taken up this challenge and have demonstrated remarkable talents in delivering innovative solutions to their clients."
The goal now for OPTIS is to combine the best of the different technologies developed by Newscape and of its own solutions to strengthen and extend them. Luc Klaine, Project Manager for Newscape, says:
“With OPTIS, we want to make the most of our assets of excellence to greatly leverage OPTIS solutions."
In a first phase, OPTIS will adapt the NST3DCAD to HIM, its immersive virtual reality tool to virtually validate assembly, use, maintenance and disassembly processes and train operators, in a life-size environment. This will allow OPTIS’ customers to use heavier models to train people on very large and detailed industrial 3D assemblies, such as passenger planes, liners and power plants, simulating every details, up to the smallest bolts, adding high realism coming from OPTIS technology. Jacques Delacour declares:
“We are happy to welcome Newscape Technology within our team, and eager to work on all the exciting possibilities our collaboration opens up. Coupling our existing solutions to their technology will definitely generate powerful tools for our clients"
