OPTIS, the leading software vendor for the scientific simulation of light and camera vision, developed the SPEOS VRX for ADAS solution, a combination of its optical sensor solution DVS (Digital Vision & Surveillance), a version of its famous SPEOS software, and of its VRXperience driving simulator platform.
SPEOS DVS lets OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers design outperforming sensors. The goal? Ensuring obstacle and pedestrian detection, and providing intelligible information to the driver by treating and merging images obtained by multiple cameras. SPEOS takes optical lenses, mechanics and sensors into account, and provides a virtual prototype of the camera which can be virtually tested under any lighting condition. As to VRXperience, it is a unique driving simulator, dedicated to lighting, where customers can test and experience intelligent lighting they have designed with SPEOS.
With SPEOS VRX for ADAS, optical equipment, including camera and LIDAR, can now be virtually assembled, tested and experienced when driving. This solution provides a unique way to collect virtual sensors' information during driving and use them to develop autopilot code. Thanks to OPTIS lighting capabilities, virtual sensors can see any scene exactly, even by night, when lit by the car’s headlamp, or inside a tunnel where artificial lighting is predominant.
Because autonomous vehicle requires more and more optical sensors and because automotive manufacturer need to test their cars on millions of miles, simulators platform are becoming mandatory. But simulators can be used only if they really represent reality which means when physics based. Simulators are already powerful regarding mechanics and dynamics of vehicles. But taking into account the environment and the way sensors will perceive it requires accurate optical simulation to simulate the signal that sensors will provide. According to car OEM manufacturers, optical sensors will be more and more present on vehicles: camera for visible and infrared, and also LIDAR that provides a 3D view of the car environment in 360°.
Using optical sensors requires to characterize the 3D scene in which you will drive the car both optically and physically. This is what SPEOS VRX for ADAS provides, adding material and light properties to the scene. Thanks to optical simulation, bad reflection on road or glass building and sun glare providing false detection are reproduced. Even traffic lights often designed in SPEOS solution will provide right light information and allows to test and validate its detection. Predefined scene are delivered and custom development is proposed by OPTIS to create customers environment.
