WSU is home to a new virtual reality system

Wichita State now has the only virtual reality lab in Kansas. The company OPTIS opened 'The Cave' today within Niar as part of WSU's 3D experience center.

Inside Wichita State's new Experimental Engineering Building, there's a whole new way to see the world. It's a virtual reality world. Chris Grieve with Optis wanted to bring it to the Air Capital for a reason.

"We wanted to have a bigger push into aerospace. Wichita is the place to be,"

said Grieve.

'Cave' stands for Computer Aided Virtual Environment. Grieve says on top of aerospace, the cave can be used to re-create crime scenes among other things.

"For an automotive example, fitting a seat into a car, it's a complicated thing and expensive thing to get wrong."

Grieve says this new world will move not only Wichita State, but the industry forward.

"As an industry, we are not doing a good job taking it to customers, so that they see it as everyday technology. It still has a wow factor, so that's nice, but we want to make it everyday business."
