OPTIS and the ELS Chair announce a collaboration for the ELS Advanced Master

The software vendor will support the educational program developed by major engineering and design schools

OPTIS, pioneer and world-leading solution provider in lighting simulation solutions for industries, and the ELS Chair, launched by ESTACA, Institut d’Optique Graduate School, Strate – School of Design and dedicated to innovative vehicle lighting systems, today announce an educational collaboration aiming at providing the latest industry-oriented knowledge and technology to future project and department managers in the field of lighting systems.


The ELS (Embedded Lighting Systems) Advanced Master is a high-level international postgraduate curriculum in the field of lighting systems. Dedicated to the training of future project managers, department managers and experts in innovative lighting systems, it provides an integrated vision from design to production, including creative design, optical, mechanical and system design, simulation and virtual prototyping.


Competencies in mechanical design being widely available within the ELS program, OPTIS, world leading provider of physics-based software solution for the simulation of lighting systems, today supports the training of ELS applicants in reaching the necessary competencies and methods in optical design, as well as in the implementation of appropriate lighting simulation tools, through a course dedicated to computer aided photometric design of illumination systems. 


OPTIS has developed SPEOS, solution created to simulate the behavior of light, human vision and the visualization of a product in its final environment, which has become the world leader in the automotive industry in terms of front and rear lighting, signal lighting, interior lighting and mood lighting: SPEOS is extensively used by the 10 biggest cars manufacturers in the world, and by 18 out of the 20 biggest of their Tier-1 suppliers. They implement SPEOS for lighting design, performance analysis, photometry analyses and regulatory analyses.


The ELS Advanced master class is composed of international experienced profiles, mainly coming from automotive industry. The course will be delivered in France by OPTIS’ optical expert(s) from the automotive industry market and will be specifically oriented towards industrial design processes for front and rear lighting.

They will also get an overview of how to automatically create complex geometries from optical specifications, how to generate interactive features to get a 3D optical analysis of a system, and how to perform colorimetric analyses on photometric results. The goal is also to understand how the integration of optical simulation software like SPEOS into the design process improve the communication and the collaboration between manufacturers and suppliers, and between development teams.”
